The Appointment of the CEO of the HKEX
December 15, 2023
We express our sincere regret regarding the departure of Mr. Nicolas Aguzin from his position as CEO of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Throughout his over two-year tenure, the Hong Kong stock market faced considerable challenges, characterized by a persistent decline in both the number and value of initial public offerings (IPOs) and a lackluster secondary market performance. As a publicly listed entity, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange also grappled with fluctuations in performance.
Despite these obstacles, Mr. Aguzin effectively guided the Exchange through a series of significant reforms. These included enhancing the interconnectivity mechanism, launching Swap Connect, introducing the RMB counter model, and reducing listing thresholds for technology firms. These innovative initiatives and services have established a robust foundation for future financial growth. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Aguzin for his invaluable contributions to the progress of Hong Kong's financial landscape and wish him great success in his future pursuits.
We are pleased to welcome Ms. Bonnie Chan as the new CEO of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. During her tenure at the Exchange, Ms. Chan has shown a steadfast commitment to enhancing listing mechanisms, exemplified by the introduction of SPACs and new listing frameworks tailored for specialized technology companies. Additionally, she has successfully launched the new IPO settlement platform, FINI. With her extensive background in the legal and financial sectors, we anticipate her implementation of innovative policies designed to attract more foreign companies to list in Hong Kong, thereby further bolstering Hong Kong's position as a leading international financial center.
